Meet the Author
Growing up in a happy but almost bookless home, I avidly read whatever was available, namely several editions of the Observer’s Book of Cars and not a lot else. I could rattle off the cubic capacity and brake horsepower of almost every car.
Aged about ten, I saved my pocket money and was finally able to buy The World Around Us for a hefty twenty five shillings, though it proved to be something of a damp squib.
A few gifts shaped my reading life. My future sister-in-law gave me R. M. Ballantyne’s The Coral Island and The Dog Crusoe, and when I was ten, my brother bought me The Oxford Book of Birds, with beautiful colour plates of every British bird. That was a milestone, and my wife and I are still armchair ornithologists.
At school, an American teacher once asked us to write an essay about legs. I drew a blank and wrote comic verse instead. To my surprise, she loved it and read it to the class. That moment sparked something lasting.
Later, I studied Latin at university and discovered a love of epic poetry. Years later, while commuting on the Piccadilly line, I began writing poems again—among them the original Keziah Rose verse.
My aim has always been simple: to put a smile on my readers’ and listeners’ faces.

If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.

Introducing: Keziah Rose
Keziah Rose is a playful exploration of rhyme, imagination and language that will delight young readers and listeners.
Structured around the joyful question "What rhymes with...?", each verse invites children into a world of surprises; elephants dancing on tiptoes, octopuses on skates, and even pink hippos in pyjamas. This whimsical picture book follows Keziah from waking up to bedtime, offering children a comforting daily arc filled with laughter, creativity, and unexpected rhymes.
Perfect for read-aloud sessions at home, in classrooms or in libraries, the text encourages children to anticipate patterns, join in with rhymes, and develop a love of language through play.
Ideal for children aged 4+, this story combines humour, rhythm, and imagination in a way that makes it a treasured addition to any picture book collection.

What Readers Are Saying!
"Etta is six so is able to read the book really well but she still enjoyed listening. She loved the rhyming aspect as it was a little girl’s name - we often play around rhyming with her name. I think it’s a really charming book to curl up with. Children find comfort in re-reading rhyming stories. Etta also loved the illustrations and made a point of looking out for things mentioned in the text."
— Etta's grandma"I like Keziah Rose a lot. The pictures were so funny. The weirdest part was when the seahorse barked and the dogfish neighed!”
— Posy, 6“We read Keziah Rose to our daughter who is just 2. The following morning the very first thing she wanted was to read it again - twice!”
